A Guide to Making Great Coffee at Home

There’s nothing like the aroma of fresh coffee filling your kitchen. Whether you’re a busy morning multitasker or a slow-sipping weekend brewmaster, having the right brewing method can make all the difference in your cup.

At CASA LEAL, we want to help you bring the magic of café-quality coffee into your home—no matter your setup. Here’s a guide to brewing coffee with a few of the most popular methods, from classic machines to hands-on favorites like the French press.

1. Drip Coffee Machine (Standard Coffee Maker)

Best for: Everyday convenience
Flavor: Smooth, mellow, consistent

What You’ll Need:

  • CASA LEAL Ground Coffee

  • Fresh, filtered water

  • Coffee machine with a paper or reusable filter

How to Brew:

  1. Add 5 tablespoons of ground coffee per 20 ounces of water (makes 3 servings).

  2. Fill the reservoir with fresh water.

  3. Place your filter in the basket and add the coffee grounds.

  4. Start the machine and let it do the work!

  5. Enjoy your brew—perfect for your morning rush.

💡 Tip: Clean your coffee maker regularly to prevent buildup and keep your coffee tasting fresh.

2. French Press (Cafetera de Émbolo)

Best for: Bold, full-bodied coffee lovers
Flavor: Rich, aromatic, slightly heavier

What You’ll Need:

  • CASA LEAL Ground Coffee

  • Hot water (just off the boil, about 200°F)

  • French press

How to Brew:

  1. Add 2 tablespoon of coffee per 8 ounces of water to the press (makes 1 cup).

  2. Pour hot water over the grounds and stir gently.

  3. Place the lid on and let steep for 4 minutes.

  4. Slowly press the plunger down.

  5. Pour and enjoy a robust, flavorful cup.

💡 Tip: Don’t let coffee sit in the press too long—it can over-extract and turn bitter.

3. Moka Pot (Stovetop Espresso Maker)

Best for: Strong coffee, espresso-style lovers
Flavor: Intense, bold, concentrated

What You’ll Need:

  • CASA LEAL Ground Coffee

  • Water

  • Moka pot

How to Brew:

  1. Fill the bottom chamber with water up to the valve.

  2. Add ground coffee to the filter basket and level it (don’t pack it down).

  3. Assemble the pot and place on medium heat.

  4. When the top chamber is full and you hear a hissing sound, remove from heat.

  5. Serve as is or use it for lattes and café-style drinks.

💡 Tip: Use CASA LEAL's Café de Olla for the best flavor!

4. Mexican Clay Pot (Kettle)

Best for: Traditional, spiced coffee lovers
Flavor: Sweet, warm, and spiced

What You’ll Need:

  • CASA LEAL Ground Coffee

  • Clay pot or Kettle

How to Brew:

  1. Add 4 cups of water to your pot.

  2. Bring to a gentle boil.

  3. Add 3–4 tablespoons of coffee and simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Strain and serve hot in a clay mug if you have one!

💡 Tip: The clay pot (olla de barro) adds an earthy touch to the flavor—but a regular kettle works too.

5. Pour-Over (V60, Chemex, or Similar)

Best for: Clean, bright flavors and aroma control
Flavor: Smooth, crisp, and aromatic

What You’ll Need:

  • CASA LEAL ground coffee

  • Pour-over dripper (like V60 or Chemex)

  • Paper filter

  • Kettle (preferably gooseneck for control)

  • Hot water (200°F)

  • Mug or carafe

How to Brew:

  1. Place your filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove paper taste.

  2. Add 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 8 oz of water to the filter.

  3. Gently pour a small amount of hot water over the grounds in a circular motion to "bloom" them (wait 30–45 seconds).

  4. Continue pouring the rest of the water slowly in circular motions until the desired amount is reached.

  5. Let it drip through completely, then remove the filter and enjoy.

💡 Tip: A gooseneck kettle helps control your pour and extract maximum flavor!
